Yvonne and Pete on their wedding day

Let me tell you about a couple, Yvonne and Pete – as they were known to their family and friends. Mum and Dad to me.

Ours was a working-class family not unlike many others, where work mattered, as did the time away from it. We enjoyed a happy, simple life together, with plenty of laughs and time for family. And they always found time for others – a neighbour on their own, friends who needed their help.

Neither had any formal qualifications, but that didn’t get in the way of them becoming great role models for what was to come. They taught me two things that have stayed with me throughout my life:

Do things right. Treat people well.

Those two principles shape who I am now and have remained at the heart of my work for forty years. The thread has remained remarkably consistent: a genuine curiosity about people, what matters to them, and what helps them move forward.

My early career in recruitment taught me the hard yards of the how and why behind business decisions that affect people. As my career developed, and I matured, it seemed a natural progression for my work to become more considered and consultative — making the time to understand the person behind the CV, or the suit.

I discovered that what mattered to people extended way beyond the pay packet. They wanted to be heard and understood. They wanted opportunities to develop and to feel supported. And it became increasingly apparent just how much our working lives can shape the rest of our lives — our confidence, our sense of identity, our relationships, and the time and energy we have for family and the things that matter outside work.

Helping people find their way forward matters to me.

That same curiosity led me into coaching, organisational development and workplace mediation, supported by postgraduate study at Warwick University and further professional training and development.

The disciplines are different, but my approach to them isn't.

I listen. I ask questions. I'll challenge when it might be useful. I don't assume I know what the right answer is for somebody else.

Whether I'm working with an individual thinking about what comes next, two people trying to repair a difficult working relationship, or a team trying to work better together, my role is to create the space for honest conversation, different perspectives and greater clarity about what happens next.

People at the centre, always.

Client Voices

What clients say.

Mark opened my eyes to a perspective of career-focused decision making I hadn't considered before. It's led to wider relationships, career progression, and a clearer understanding of my own values. Thoroughly recommended.

Steve Hanks

Founder, 1Streetworks

Mark's approach made me look at my job search differently and focus on utilising my skill sets. It's thanks to his guidance and knowledge that I'm in the position I am today.

Peter B Fletcher

Manager Business Development, Mastercard

Mark is about quality — he will spend time with you to understand what you want and how best he can help you. He is a good sounding board and is happy to challenge and give guidance when required, and in a way that doesn't feel directive.

Colin Lloyd

Divisional Manager, National Recruitment Company

Anyone who has achieved sustained success in their business career over a couple of decades has rarely achieved this without solid ethics and unfaltering values. I find Mark ranks highly on these points.
